Picklestone is a glass bottle that simplifies the process of making traditional Japanese pickles and preserved vegetables known as tsukemono.

Start by placing diced vegetables inside the glass bottle, sprinkle on Picklestone’s newly developed UMAMI seasoning (or use salt, chili pepper, and konbu), then put the stone on top and wait. With these three simple steps, you’re not just making delicious tsukemono, you’re also incorporating the health benefits of fermented foods into your diet and eliminating vegetable deficiency.Vegetable skins, roots, and leaves can all be used instead of discarded, helping to reduce food waste as well.

Created by designer Tomonori Tanaka and recognized with a Good Design Award in 2018, Picklestone consists of a stone weight, a cylindrical glass bottle, and a wooden lid that simplifies the process of making tsukemono, traditional Japanese pickles and preserved vegetables.

Materials:
Glass (bottle), Aji granite (stone), hinoki wood (batten), bamboo (lid), cotton (rope)

Variation:
The color and grain of natural wood are unique for each lid.

Care Instructions:

Glass Bottle
Using warm water, dish detergent, and a soft sponge, clean thoroughly by hand. Wipe excess water with a towel and allow it to fully dry in a well-ventilated area.

Stone
Using water, dish detergent, and a soft sponge, cleanthoroughly by hand. Wipe excess water with a towel and allow to fully dry in a well-ventilated area.

Batten and String
Remove the rope and rinse the batten thoroughly with clean water. If there is excessive grime, wash with mild detergent and a soft sponge. Wipeexcess water with a towel and allow to fully dry in a well-ventilated area.

Lid and Seal
Remove the seal and rinse both thoroughly with clean water. Wipe excess water with a towel and allow to fully dry in a well-ventilated area.
